Eden review;

There's a really nice review of my EP Eden, over on guitarjar.co.uk right now, feel free to head over and check it out. Big thanks to those guys for all the support and encouragement.

See it here;
GuitarJar interview is live;
The online guitar community over at GuitarJar is well worth spending some time browsing, the fella who runs the site, Sam, obviously has alot of love for guitar playing and music, and there is an enormous resource of infomation and insights into different corners of the guitar world over there....he has put alot of time and effort into that site, and I've spent the last two hours alone reading the "15 questions" section, which features unsung and sung guitarist alike, offering me a chance to read the minds of people on the same path as myself, as well as the ones "up the ladder" metaphorically speaking.....it's funny how it doesn't seem that different up there.....but enough digression;

The newest 15 Questions feature is yours truly, the large confused ginger(ish) ape behind the keyboard here....and I'm very honoured that I was even considered for this. It's yet another chance for me to harp on about my lovely guitar, and hopefully share some info that may help anyone starting on the path that I'm currently slogging up!
So thanks Sam, for featuring me, and the encouragement, and here,if you've kept reading.....read some more, click below;

Into the Channel;

Local filmmaker Mark Errington has been busy the last two years, making a film about a subject close to his heart....and kindly featured some of my music, as well as some other
good local musicians.
Here's how Mark describes it;

Into the Channel poster Jersey surf film."The time has come to showcase the collection of footage gathered together over 2 years, giving a brief look into the history behind Jersey surfing and looking at what it has become to the island today, through sharp and aggressive young surfing sensations arising from a small island out of the air and showing how somewhere so small can have such a tight surfing community.

A one of a kind surf film featuring all local music from artists such as The Mulburys, Pirate Video Company, Rick Jones, Lizzard Channel, Quick And The Dead and local DJ Ryan Herve."

I can't wait to see it, and it's an honour to have my music be a part of it!

New Blog section on the site...............

......which means this "news" page may become less relevant I guess. I will still post bigger news up here, such as new song releases, important gigs and announcements, but for general "what's happening" type updates, the blog format panders to my lazy, man like nature, mainly as it fills the dates and such in automatically.

It also means you can leave comments, nice or otherwise, about what you read, so feel free to communicate......if anyone is really reading this stuff....

You can read the blog HERE

I just added some news about Jersey live, Chambers, a recent press article and how I've just made a blog.

"Guitarists" page?

Avalon L32 guitar with Mi-Si pickupsI have, over the course of the last few months, been asked for tabs,guitar tips and info on pickups etc. for live sound, I have been picking up bits and pieces over the years, and have become something of a geek in these matters....not to mention I've probably used 80% or more of the available pickups,preamps,leads and other sundries associated with acoustic guitars.
 I have a photographic memory and could probably bore the pants off you with the endless quest I've had to get the sounds I want out of the guitar, both plugged and unplugged, technique and gear. So, to that end, please shoot me an email on rick@rickjonesmusic.co.uk if you have anything you'd like me to cover on the new section.

I intend to archive allsorts of info,from pickup installs with pics and step by step info, to tabs and technique breakdowns...and so forth.
Coming soon!

"Exit Ramp" preview on youtube;
On the videos page, you can hear the new recording of Exit ramp, posted on youtube, pretty soon I hope to get some TAB and explaination of how to play it up on my site, as well as the song to purchase on iTunes.

It's kind of a different feel from most of my stuff, for better or worse, but I had to do something with the guitar part as I liked playing it so much!
Other new songs to come.
Rick

Taking up a Friday residency;
Watersplash Jersey
One of the best venues here in Jersey, not New Jersey, the old Jersey, for live music has been for many years "The Watersplash", located smack in the middle of the best and longest surf beach on this Island, and right on the beach....on a high tide the waves are literally hitting the windows as the party goes on inside. You get some amazing sunsets as it is located dead to the west of the island, and the seaward side is all glass and outdoor seating...summer down there is amazing, and I am pleased to announce that from 9pm, pretty much every Friday over the coming summer, you can catch an acoustic set from me, followed by an open mic, followed by a live band, followed by whatever jam session happens 'till the doors close at 1am.

Expect some decent music, from Jersey and beyond, and some great sunsets, beer and friendly atmosphere.
Come and play a few tunes for us between sets if you wanna.

Avalon guitars Newtownards, N.I.Avalon Guitars;

I am proud to be the new owner of an Avalon L32 guitar, hand made in Newtownards,Nothern Ireland.
The instrument is amazing, and will be used on any upcoming projects I have,be they my own music or any session work that requires acoustic guitar. The best unplugged tones I've ever had!

Avalon were kind  enough to include me on their list of Artists on the Avalon website, which is a huge honour!
Great company, great guitars.

See the website here;

Recent Copyright infringement;

We were recentely contacted by someone, who whilst searching for the song "sunsets in the west" online, came across an early demo version, clearly with Rick singing and playing on it, but claiming to be performed by "Eric Bruce", further examination of the page found 9 more Rick Jones songs, all from the sessions recorded for the "13" album in 2005, and listed as written/performed by Eric Bruce.
These songs original files are stored on a harddrive in the safe of copyright lawyers, with the dates of recording and details on the files themselves.
Any examination would prove that this is Ricks voice on the songs Eric Bruce claim to be his and the recordings are identical to the 13 sessions.

We are seeking legal advice at present.

Febuary 5; Jeff Lang support slot.

Jeff Lang live at watersplash JerseyRick recently had the huge honour of supporting the incredible Australian guitar virtuoso and songwriter extraordinaire Jeff Lang when he hit Jerseys Watersplash beach venue on part of his UK tour to promote his new album  "Chimeradour".
Jeff tore the place down, like he does all over the world, and Rick joined the incredible young talents of Annie Law and Joe Hutchinson, and fellow Jersey songwriter Justin Thorne in warming up the crowd before Jeff hit the stage.
Rick was joined by local hand percussionist Alex Glendinning on the Darbuka and Cajon for a few numbers, and hit the crowd with a few upbeat stomps and the popular "Sunsets in the West" from the Eden CD.
Big thanks to the Watersplash crew and Jeff for having us along.
Photo's from the gig will be online soon.
